STAR Bulls winger Ethan Ryan spoke of the overwhelming feeling after being named as League One's Young Player of the Year following his stellar try-scoring season.

Ryan pledged thanks to his family and his teammates for their support and giving him the opportunity to achieve his goals.

Ryan boasts an impressive try to game ratio for the 2018 season, something which he admits has been his aim on the field since his amateur days.

“It’s an overwhelming feeling really. All the support from everyone this season has been great, from my family to my teammates and of course the fans,” said Ryan.

“I think my family have been to most games this season, home and away. They’re very supportive I couldn’t ask for much more.

“There’s a huge thank you needed for my teammates. They give me the platform to perform to the best of my ability and give me the opportunity to cross the line.

“My form has been good this season but like I’ve said, it’s mostly down to my teammates and John (Kear). He put the faith in me and picked me for most of our games this season.

“When I was younger, I liked to keep my ratio of tries to games pretty similar. It sounds childish but I like backing up my appearances up with tries.

“Scoring tries is my job in the team. It’ll always be my main aim and I’ll always strive to be better, but keeping my record up over the last few years is something I’m happy about.”

Despite the celebrations, Ryan insists his mind is solely focused on the task in hand on the field, as Bradford prepare for their play-off run in.

Ryan also commented on the production line of the Bradford academy, as he followed in former Bulls man James Bentley’s footsteps to claim the Young Player of the Year award.

“Oldham is a repeat fixture of a few weeks ago and it’s fresh in our minds. We know what we need to do to beat them, we just need to bring our A-game,” said Ryan.

“It’s going to be a huge challenge but that’s what you expect at this stage. It’s a semi-final and I’d expect nothing less than 100% from them and from ourselves.

“The talent of our academy is obvious. James (Bentley) won the Young Player award last year for the Championship and he had a massive year. He’s put in the hard work this season and now he’s getting the rewards.”
