BRADFORD (Park Avenue), in front of a decent crowd of 128, are out of the FA Youth Cup, beaten 4-2 at home in the first qualifying round by Harworth Colliery

Avenue created a few chances in the first 15 minutes but failed to convert any of them. Tom Conlon saw his shot pushed onto the bar by the Harworth goalkeeper, while Jordan Botwood shot straight at him.

Colliery took the lead with a deflected shot from a free-kick, but Avenue levelled before half-time when Conlon's corner was tapped in by Dan Bailey.

Adam Whitrick put Avenue in front with a header, but a soft free-kick on the edge of the penalty area was converted to make it 2-2.

Avenue goalkeeper George Widdop then made a mistake, which gave their visitors a 3-2 lead, and they stretched that advantage with another free-kick to go through.

Alex Meechan, Avenue's manager, said: "I was deeply disappointed. It was a tough night for my players as they failed to show the courage and belief to go and play with the football as we had done in the preliminary round (won 4-2 at Staveley Miners' Welfare).

"We lacked quality but we will learn from these type of matches."

In other preliminary round ties, Silsden lost 4-2 at Ossett United, Steeton went down by the same score at home to Harrogate Railway Athletic and Farsley Celtic lost 8-0 at home to Tadcaster Albion.

Meanwhile, Campion Under-21s remain top of the West Riding County FA Development League after their 2-2 draw at Harrogate Town Under-23s.

The visitors went in front through Harry Brown but Harrogate equalised with a goal which looked offside.

Town then made it 2-1 before Campion levelled with seven minutes remaining through a Nathan Firth penalty.

Campion manager Steve Grime said: ""e didn't play to the standard we had set in our earlier games and we felt hard done by for not picking up all three points against Harrogate, who were last season's champions."
