IT WAS definitely a tough game at Oldham last week and very much a clash of two halves.

I was delighted with the first 40 minutes. I thought we were clever, played some very good stuff and were patient and worked hard to create field position and therefore opportunities. I felt the half-time scoreboard reflected how well we played.

However, in the second half it was as if we had the same shirts on but with different people filling them!

It was very disappointing and the number of errors we came up with in the second period was just not acceptable, especially against a team as good as Oldham.

This week sees the last game of the regular season and it is in York’s hands to win the competition.

That is what we have to assume is going to happen because I think their opponents, Whitehaven, have had their last hurrah.

Their last home game saw their player-coach, who is leaving, come up with a hat-trick and that enabled them to just pinch a victory against Coventry. So, I am feeling they will not be strong enough to overcome York and we will have to go through the play-offs.

And those will not be easy. We will be playing Oldham again for starters – that is how they have worked out, we'll have Oldham while Doncaster have Workington – and those three sides are all very good teams.

Therefore, to go up we must bring our ‘A’ game to both play-off contests, but obviously you don’t get to play in the second, or possible third, if you don’t win the first one.

This week we had the Sponsors' Night at Odsal and it was a very good occasion.

It shows how close the sponsors are to the players and how approachable the players are. That’s good because the sponsors are very important to us – without them we wouldn’t have a club.

We realise that, and we feel we have go to make reasonable efforts to mix and mingle and enjoy each other’s company. That’s what they did and we really appreciate the hard work the sponsors do and the money they invest in the club.

The support this year has been tremendous, both home and away, and it makes you realise just how big a club this potentially is.

Of course, that will only follow if we progress through the leagues and, as we have already alluded to, we have a couple of tough weeks coming up and we will need that support behind us.
