JOHN Kear insists feet are firmly on the ground as the Bulls build up for a play-off rematch with Oldham.

Unless York come a cropper in the final league game on Sunday, Kear’s side will face the knock-out route for promotion from League One.

Scott Naylor’s Roughyeds are expected to be the semi-final opponents at Odsal – five days after the Bulls beat them 24-16.

But Kear was fuming with the second-half display at the Vestacare Stadium when they failed to post any points on a team who played most of it with 12 men – and finished with just 10.

This week’s debrief with the players has focused on ensuring that complacency does not happen again.

Kear said: “They thought the job had been done. Rather than working away to further points, they thought they could throw the ball around and it would just happen.

“Oldham are too good a team for that to be the case, so I think that’s been a salutary lesson for us.

“We’ve got our heads round the factual aspect of the game.

“We didn’t make one error at all in the first half in our own half.

“We played the second half and completed at 60 per cent bringing the ball from our own half.

“They are the facts – the reasoning behind it is a little bit more difficult to find out.

“But we do believe we’ve identified it and will hope to rectify it this week in preparation for the play-offs.”

Kear will make changes for the league finale against Hemel at Odsal. Tonight’s reserve game at home to Halifax has also been arranged to ensure the squad are all up to speed for the expected play-off challenge.
