STEPH Houghton today issued a thank-you for the backing shown to husband Stephen Darby.
The former City defender has been forced to retire at just 29 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
The news has come as a massive shock and England women's captain Houghton revealed the couple have been "overwhelmed" with the public support.
She said on Twitter: "Thank you everyone for your messages over the last few days. We can’t thank you all enough for your love and support. We are overwhelmed.
"We will keep fighting and most of all keep smiling!"
