A LAST-MINUTE Jassim Alali strike saw Eccleshill United take maximum points from a five-goal thriller and boosted them three places up the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

There were just five games in the top tier due to most of the clubs being involved in the FA Vase and the Eagles made the most of it to climb up to sixth place with their 3-2 win over Hall Road Rangers.

The Hull-based side are a lowly 16th in the table but they caused the Eagles a lot of problems and created chances while Rangers’ striker Reagan Waud helped himself to a first-half brace as the visitors led at the break.

Waud opened the scoring but Ben Grech-Brooksbank levelled almost immediately, only to see Waud complete his brace midway through the first half. The Eagles were back level on the hour mark, Andy Cooper on target, and they snatched the win when Alali drove home the last-gasp winner from the edge of the area.

Penistone Church leapfrogged Liversedge following a 2-0 home win over Jonathan Rimmington’s men. The Penistone skipper Danny Howes gave his side a first-half lead and striker Andy Ring added a second on the hour mark.

Penistone are immediately above the Eagles in fifth spot while Sedge tumble to 10th after a sixth straight defeat in all competitions.
