GUISELEY secured a fine 1-0 win at Alfreton Town on Saturday in the Vanarama National League North, and Marcus Bignot is delighted to see his tactical game plan finally coming together.

The Lions signed the talented forward Lewis Walters last week after his release from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season and Bignot was impressed with the 23-year-old's debut.

He enthused: "We've not got a lot of firepower at the moment as we've been decimated by injuries so it was important for us to sign Lewis.

"He complements what we want in attacking areas and he acquitted himself well for someone who hasn't played a lot of football in recent months."

Guiseley will look to build on their Alfreton success with a victory over FC United of Manchester at Nethermoor tomorrow and will fancy their chances against a side who are currently in the relegation zone.

However, the visitors are unbeaten in three games under caretaker manager Dave Chadwick, and Bignot was wary, saying: "I watched them play Bradford Park Avenue earlier this month.

"In the first half, you could see why they were struggling down there, but they showed their threat in the second half and got a point.

"They're a footballing team who want to play and I wouldn't read too much into their league position at the moment."

However, Bignot added: "If we can play like we did in the second half at Alfreton and impose that style upon FC United, we'll have a good chance."

The Lions joint-manager was full of praise for his side's efforts on Saturday and he enthused: "First and foremost we're delighted with the result and the three points.

"We put many wrongs right from the previous game, where we conceded a last-minute equaliser against Chester, and that was the most pleasing aspect of the performance.

"We've been working hard towards going ahead, holding on to our lead and keeping a clean sheet and we achieved all that on Saturday."

The week has been soured though by the confirmation of the anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered by Louie Swain and Bignot admitted that injuries are still a real issue for his side.

He said: "It's been a bad week on the medical side and we're down to the bare bones. I don't want to give too much away to the opposition but the 16 we had on Saturday might be different to this weekend's squad."
