DAVID Hopkin will not rush into making up his mind on City’s backroom staff.

The new boss is focusing all his efforts for now on getting the players up to speed.

Talk of his coaching team will be put on the backburner in the chase for immediate points.

Chairman Edin Rahic has stressed that it will be Hopkin’s decision as to whether he wants to keep Greg Abbott and Martin Drury as assistants or look to bring in his own men.

Abbott and Drury, who worked with sacked head coach Michael Collins, were both on the bench at Blackpool for Hopkin’s opening game in charge.

The Scot revealed he is prepared to delay any call as he prioritises matters on the pitch.

Hopkin said: “I’ve not really had time to think about it with everything going on.

“I’ve had to travel back to Scotland twice to get some of my stuff since getting the job and it has been hectic.

“It will take a period of time but it’s important we try to get points on the board first. Then after that we can have a chat about it.”

Hopkin admits Abbott and Drury have been invaluable in helping him to get settled since his appointment eight days ago.

“Greg and Martin have been first class since I’ve come in,” he added.

“They’ve helped out with players because obviously coming in for just three days (of training) before the game, it was hard to try to adjust to a squad.

“But from what I’ve seen over this last week, I’ve been impressed by all of them.

“This week I’ll work with them again and see what happens.

“But the whole staff have been great, not just Martin and Greg but the medical team, (goalkeeping coach) Steve Banks – the lot of them.

“It’s just about making sure they work to a structure.

“I’ve implemented things now at the training ground that hopefully will make it better. That’s the most important thing.

“They have been very receptive with what I’m trying to do.

“I’m trying to get everybody singing from the same hymn sheet.

“That starts from the training ground. If I can get that successful as part one of something you want to put in place, then everything else will hopefully follow suit.

“As long as the players and staff are coming here knowing they are going to work hard, then you can look to build from there.”
