Yorkshire had a mixed afternoon session on day two against against Lancashire at Emerald Headingley, with the visitors still on top.

Lancashire, replying to a first-innings 209 in this Specsavers County Championship relegation battle, had reached 145-1 before lunch and began the afternoon on 165-4.

But they were bowled out for 252, a lead of 43, as Jack Brooks claimed a superb 5-66.

Unfortunately, however, Yorkshire then slipped to 19-2 in their second innings and reached tea at 25-2, a deficit of 18.

Two of Brooks’ wickets came after lunch, while Matthew Waite also picked up two cheap scalps.

There would have been a touch of frustration at allowing Lancashire a second batting point for passing 250 when they slipped to 221-9. But overall this was a superb White Rose effort with the ball today.

Brooks trapped Alex Davies lbw in his first over after lunch - the second in all - for 87 before getting Josh Bohannon the same way.

Waite then had Tom Bailey caught behind and Graham Onions bowled as the score fell to 221-9, with South Africa Test left-arm spinner hitting three leg-side sixes in 38 to boost the total before he was superbly caught at long-on by Steve Patterson off Ben Coad to wrap up the innings.

Bailey and Onions then struck with the ball in successive overs as the former trapped Jeet Raval lbw and the latter had Adam Lyth caught behind as Yorkshire fell to 19-2 in the eighth over.
