BRADFORD (Park Avenue) under-18s progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup following their fine 4-2 win at Staveley Miners Welfare.

On a wet night, Avenue came out in fiery spirits and quickly got themselves on the front foot. The midfield were dominant with the trio of Matthew Rowntree, Joe Leahy and Hassan Ali taking the game to Staveley.

Quick forward play meant full backs could get involved and it was full back Tom Conlon who was brought down inside the area to give Avenue a penalty which was converted by Matthew Rowntree.

Staveley grabbed an equaliser just before half-time following sloppy play. It didn’t take long for Avenue to get back on top when Tom Conlon, who was having the game of his life, popped up with a lovely curled shot off his weaker foot from the edge of the box.

Striker Jordan Botwood, who had not stopped running throughout, came up with Avenue’s third when he picked up the ball in the channel, cut inside and bent the ball into the bottom corner.

Joe Ockerby picked the ball up and made a good delivery into the box where Danny Bailey headed home for a great goal. Staveley reduced the arrears with a tap in but Avenue held out thanks to crucial blocks by Adam Whitrick and Joe Leahy, with Harry Holmes making a perfectly-timed last man tackle late on.

Brighouse Town under-21s had Tom Gomersall leading the way with a hat trick in their 7-2 win at Sherburn White Rose in the West Riding County FA League.

Brighouse played some really good football to lead 6-0 lead at half-time. The other Brighouse goals came from Bill Farrell (2), Warren Hildred and Will Parkin.

Assistant boss Barry Thomas said: "Overall, it was a great performance, especially in the first half but we eased off in the second period."

Campion under-21s began their new campaign with a 4-1 victory at Yorkshire Amateur. On target were Junayd Pandor (2), Joe Wood and Sam Morrell. Campion followed this up with a 2-2 draw at Garforth Town.

Silsden's development dide lost 5-0 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare under-21s.
