HANGING Heaton picked up their second trophy in successive weeks by defeating Wakefield Thornes by seven wickets in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy.

Now skipper Gary Fellows and his talented team are targeting a hat-trick of cup wins when they compete on Sunday in the Vitality ECB Clubs T20 finals at Derby.

Fellows' decision to put Wakefield Thornes in to bat proved decisive as they followed up their Solly Sports Heavy Woollen Cup final win with another big-match victory at Cleckheaton.

Wakefield Thornes, who recently clinched their third successive Yorkshire League ECB Premier League title, were certainly handicapped by the weather.

Rain twice interrupted their innings and shaved off 14 overs. It meant they were unable to develop the momentum they wanted and resulted in them sacrificing wickets in pursuit of quick runs.

Opener James Wolfenden (30) top scored as his side were dismissed for 142. Left-arm spinner Aqsad Ali bowled six excellent overs to take 3-8 to keep Thornes in check.

With off-spinner Callum Geldart conceding only 14 runs in six overs, Thornes were unable to increase the tempo.

Paceman David Stiff (4-46) was the most successful bowler but it was the spinners who established a strong hold on the game.

Hanging Heaton were set a Duckworth Lewis target of 152 from 36 overs and despite losing openers Fellows and Nick Connolly with just 24 on the board, they soon seized control of the game.

Left-handers Joe Fraser and Geldart were soon finding the boundary regularly. Fraser unfurled a number of attractive shots either side of the wicket as he made 52 from 55 balls with a six and eight fours.

He shared a third-wicket stand of 88 with Geldart who was unbeaten on 47 when Hanging Heaton reached their target with 14.4 overs to spare.
