LAST week’s hundred star Tom Kohler-Cadmore is hoping for more of the same against Lancashire and beyond as Yorkshire aim to secure Specsavers County Championship safety.

Kohler-Cadmore posted his first four-day hundred in his sixth Division One appearance for the White Rose in their draw against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

His 106, completed during Friday’s fourth morning, was the top score in Yorkshire’s first-innings 498 and followed an earlier ton by Gary Ballance.

Largely patient, Kohler-Cadmore accelerated to help Yorkshire secure a fifth batting bonus point, and their 12-point haul sets them up ideally for tomorrow’s clash with fellow strugglers Lancashire at Emerald Headingley.

Yorkshire, second-from-bottom, are a point behind Lancashire with three games to play. Their visitors only have two remaining.

“The next three weeks are massive because we’re playing the teams around us,” said the 24-year-old.

“The games are pretty much like double points because it could swing both ways massively depending upon the outcome.

“Yes, it’s a big game. But the week after against Hampshire is going to be huge as well.

“In some ways, it doesn’t really matter that it’s a Roses game because there’s a lot on it anyway - although it might be slightly heightened.

“It’s that time of year. There’s not many dull games, especially when you’ve only got eight in the division and two go down. If we play well, we’ll be in a good position.

“The ball’s in our court. It’s not like we’re trying to play catch up. We’re there and thereabouts with teams above us.”

Kohler-Cadmore now has five career Championship career centuries, including four for Worcestershire.

In his six appearances for Yorkshire, he has posted scores of 78, 81 and 106. The latter two have come in the last two matches against Somerset and Notts.

“I’m quite happy with how it’s gone,” said the England Lions one-day man ahead of his first taste of Roses Championship cricket.

“It’s nice to get going, and hopefully I can keep pushing to cement my spot in this team.

“I’m really happy with how it went (on Friday), and it’s good for us that we got the draw.

“I had to be patient because they set good fields. When I hit good shots, it was normally to a sweeper on the boundary. I had to take it deep.

“I’ve done this kind of thing before. It’s not a freak innings for me.

“I’ve done it for Worcester, their twos, our twos and now the firsts.

“With my strength being in one-day cricket, people don’t see it as much. But I’ve not that much opportunity to show it as well.

“It’s something I want to prove to people that I can do. I want a lot more innings where I’m putting in big scores.

“I’ve been given a chance now, and I’ve got to take that chance. All I can do is look forward to putting in another performance against Lancashire.”

Yorkshire will welcome back captain Steve Patterson from a broken finger.

Patterson has not played a Championship match since the win over Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford in late July.

All the pressure is on Lancashire given they only have two fixtures to play. Their final match is against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl during the summer’s final week.

Yorkshire also have Hampshire to play at Headingley and Worcestershire at New Road. All three fixtures are against the teams closest to them in the table.

Meanwhile, Lancashire have signed England Lions fast bowler Richard Gleeson from Northants, and he could debut in this match.

Yorkshire squad: Patterson (c), Ballance, Bresnan, Brook, Brooks, Kohler-Cadmore, Logan, Lyth, Pillans, Poysden, Raval, Tattersall w, Waite.
