BULLS try-scorer extraordinaire Ethan Ryan insists the experience gained from League One rugby will be vital for his growth as a player.

Ryan has been an ever-present in John Kear’s line-up this season, crossing the whitewash for 32 tries so far, earning plaudits for his Super League-esque finishing along the way.

Ryan also commented on the impact of the players around him, such as Tuoyo Egodo who he combined with successfully in last weekend’s 54-4 victory over Keighley Cougars.

“The standard in League One isn’t as high as the Championship, but it’s a very tough league, you face different challenges and learn different skills I’ve just happened to hit some form,” said Ryan.

“I feel like I’ve progressed a lot as a player this season, experience is key the more games you play the more you learn no matter what tier you are playing in.

“As I’ve played more games this year I’ve hit that consistency you want, as has the team, I think I’ve played every game which has been great to do it’s just about pushing on each week.

“I’ve played with a number of centre partners this year, Lee Smith, Ross Oakes, Tuoyo Egodo at the weekend, they all bring something different and learning to play with each only makes me better.

“I really enjoy playing with Tuoyo, he’s just an absolute powerhouse, we obviously combined well with three tries each and he came out with man of the match so I’d like to link up again.

“Whenever we have a week off we’re always itching to get back because it’s what we love, the derby just adds another layer of eagerness to perform well and get the bragging rights.”

As the play-offs loom ever closer for the Bradford Bulls, Ryan ensures the side are fully focused on the job in hand despite the distractions of outside influences.

Ryan admitted that focusing in on a proposed league structure change, or promotion rivals York City Knights' results, could be detrimental to their own form.

As a product of the Bulls famous academy, Ryan also hinted at a bright future as Kear revealed under-19s player Matty Storton was close to making the squad last time out.

“The new league proposals are still up in the air, we’re not focusing on that, we could start thinking about that and our performances would be effected on the field,” said Ryan

“John (Kear) is doing a good job of keeping us focused, we know what the tasks in hand could become but we’ll keep fighting and we know we have the quality to do so.

“I’ve watched a lot of the 19s games and been really impressed, that goes for all the youngsters even the 16s with the likes of Murphy Smith who is excelling this year.

“When I came through the system there was only two of us, now there are six or seven real quality players coming through, such as Matty and Rowan Milnes, so it’s really promising.”
