TEENAGER Sam Smith had an unfortunate debut for Wibsey as they started life in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper suffered a serious leg and ankle injury in only the second minute at Stanley United.

After what seemed like an eternity as he was attended to by an ambulance, the game continued, with Matty Smith replacing Sam between the sticks, and the replacement did so well that he was named man of the match.

Ethan Labad and Lee Smith put Wibsey 2-0 ahead but the hosts levelled and missed a penalty before Lee Smith got the winner with 15 minutes left.

Farsley Celtic Juniors were 5-1 up at the interval against Athletico on Bradford Academy's 4G pitch but tired in the second half and couldn't add to their tally.

Goals for the winners, who were inspired by the return of creative midfielder Craig Farrand, came from Louis Surtees (2), Joe Firth, a 30-yard cracker from Dave Walker and Lee Ransom.

Champions Drighlington have a new manager in Ben Small and, despite trailing to a Rhys Moore penalty at Grangefield Old Boys, they hit back to win 3-1 via Harvey Booth, Shane Sowden and George Kovac.

Another stand-in keeper to excel was Dale McCormack for Stanningley, who saved a penalty to earn the hosts a 2-2 draw against Leeds Medics & Dentists.

James Allen marked his return to the home side with a brilliant equalising header after Medics had led 2-0, with Tom Stewart getting Stanningley's opener, which had more than a hint of offside about it.

St Bede's, who narrowly failed to win promotion from the Championship Division, lost their opener 2-1 at Wortley, who continued their superb run from last season.

After going behind to a free-kick that smashed against a post and rebounded in off their keeper, Bede's levelled via debutant Alex Green but then missed late chances after going 2-1 behind to visitors Wortley.

Beefed-up Gildersome Spurs Old Boys, who also just missed out in 2017-18, beat second-tier new boys Leeds City Old Boys 5-0, courtesy of the returning Matt Jackson (3), Connor Firth and Johnny Hunt.

Idle, who worked hard defensively, triumphed 2-1 at new side Amaranth Crossgates in an excellent contest Division One.

Jack Strudwick put the visitors ahead from the spot after the dynamic Ryan Mitchell was upended.

Amaranth equalised in the second half, despite Marcus Strudwick appearing to be fouled when coming for a cross, but Idle got the winner on the counter-attack, with Connor Churm slotting the ball home from Adam Medley's perfect cross.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves blamed missed chances and a lack of fitness in the final 15 minutes for their 3-2 home defeat to Dewsbury Rangers.

New skipper Alex Reid and James Thompson had put the Celts 2-0 ahead but they lost to the last kick of the game.

Tyersal were delighted with their clean sheet in Division Two, beating visitors Morley Town Reserves 3-0 courtesy of Ryan Pogson (2) and Wayne Wright, but Fairbank United could not capitalise on a 2-1 lead in a 4-3 home defeat against Sandal Wanderers.

Abdullah Lane and Fans Hussain had put United ahead but they only got one more goal – by Aarslaan Ramzan – thanks to a late rally.

Arsalam Mahmood gave St Bede's the lead in Division Four at home to Drighlington Reserves, but the visitors hit back via Andy Punter, Ryan Rhodes and AJ Topping in a 3-1 victory.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys Reserves were missing four or five regulars but the efforts of four debutants more than made up for it in a 7-2 triumph at Dewsbury Rangers Reserves.

Jamie Lloyd (2), substitute Luke Ambler (2), Iain McGowan, Ben Barstow and Lucas Scott netted for the winners, and there was no stopping St Bede's Academy in Division Five as they won 9-1 at Leeds City Old Boys Fourths.

The school's third team were inspired by captain Tom Mozley, player-manager Mick Dougan and right back Henry Mozley, who scored with a 45-yarder into the top corner, but were denied a clean sheet in the final 30 seconds.
