NEW Farnley are still in the hunt for an impressive double, but captain Lee Goddard has suggested that Sunday's Heavy Woollen Cup final against Hanging Heaton at Spen Victoria is his team's priority this weekend.

They host Methley in the Bradford Premier League Premier Division tomorrow but having lost last week's top-two clash, only a Pudsey St Lawrence defeat in the last two games could see New Farnley come top.

Goddard admitted: "The title is out of our hands and I don't expect Pudsey St Lawrence to slip up. There's far less pressure tomorrow and we should just go out and play our natural game.

"We have to be full of confidence on Sunday though and play to our full potential against a really good Hanging Heaton side because it would be nice to win a trophy. We were in the hunt for three a few weeks ago so it would be very disappointing to finish with none."

They face another difficult task tomorrow and Goddard said: "Methley are tough to beat. Grant Soames leads them well and Yorkshire's Matthew Waite is dangerous. They have lost their overseas player though in Waqas Ahmed.

"He was a really challenging fast bowler and although I liked facing his pace, it's a big loss for them."

New Farnley lost in that key game at Pudsey St Lawrence last week and Goddard lamented: "We should have knocked off the 150 that we had to chase.

"They were five down early on too but then Chris Marsden and Charlie Parker produced a key partnership. Although they bowled well we didn't apply ourselves with the bat. We need to be tougher and grind it out in situations like that."

Two players who did perform well in that game were New Farnley's opening bowlers Andrew Brewster and Alex Lilley, who took three wickets apiece.

Goddard enthused: "They're always important and along with Ajmal Shahzad, we have three high class bowlers who can take wickets early doors. We have two or three good spinners too so we are well-balanced in the bowling department."

Pudsey's bowlers are just as threatening and they will hope the aforementioned Marsden and Parker can run riot against relegated Scholes in the Premier Division.

They took six wickets between them against Goddard's men to add to that 52-run partnership and a win here would leave their side with one hand on the trophy.

Hanging Heaton currently sit third in the league and they should consolidate that position with a home win over lowly Bradford & Bingley. Ishmail Dawood hit 56 before Callum Geldart took 6-39 as they beat Methley by 31 runs last week.

Elsewhere Farsley will be hoping to secure their 14th win of the season at home to fourth-bottom Lightcliffe, Woodlands should win at a hapless East Bierley side, while there is a mid-table clash which sees Townville host Cleckheaton.
