IT WAS a very positive day for both Farsley Celtic and Brighouse Town as the Evo-Stik League got underway.

Farsley Celtic, who play their football a division above their neighbours, won at Warrington Town in the Premier Division.

The Yellows finished third last term and did the double over Farsley, who also finished in the play-off places, but Adam Lakeland’s side came back from the Winner Recruitment Stadium having beaten their bogey club.

The visitors broke the deadlock early as Nathan Turner fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the area, with Paul Walker claiming the assist.

Will Hayhurst doubled the Celts' lead in the 36th minute, on his competitive debut, with another shot from the edge of the area.

The Celts had to ride their luck at times as Warrington created chances in the second half and Farsley ended with ten men after James Spencer took an early bath.

He picked up a second yellow card nine minutes from time, with both bookings coming for kicking the ball away.

Vill Powell’s Brighouse won their first game in Division One East as they also scored two goals without reply.

Gresley FC were the visitors to the Yorkshire Pay Stadium and conceded a goal in each half as Town marched to victory.

Aaron Martin provided the first, his 16th-minute through ball finding Tom Robinson, who slotted in, and netted the second himself as he met Ousman Cham’s 82nd-minute corner with a header at the far post.

It could have been worse for the visitors as Brighouse were denied by the bar in the 51st minute, and Gresley keeper Jack Livesey pulled out a top-drawer save following a 72nd-minute corner.
