FARSLEY Celtic demonstrated their superiority over local rivals Eccleshill United with an entertaining 3-1 away win at the Mitton Group Stadium last night.

Will Hayhurst opened the scoring for the Evo-Stik Premier Division side halfway through the first period and although Paul Walker struck the post, Farsley could not extend their advantage before the break.

The Celts had a terrible start to the second half. Luke Parkin had a goal disallowed for offside before being carried off with a serious-looking injury, then Ryan Watson had a penalty brilliantly saved by Eccleshill's Dom Smith.

Smith's fine saves kept the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side in the contest and they were fortunate to see Kurt Harris' effort hit the crossbar as Farsley continued to dominate.

Eccleshill substitute Jonny Irving had been absent for 10 weeks with injury and he nearly marked his return with a goal, but shot narrowly wide of the near post when well-placed.

With 11 minutes remaining, Adam Clayton powered home Watson's corner to double Farsley's lead, before Smith denied Lewis Walker the chance to make it three.

Eccleshill pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute. Winger Levi Maturine ran on to Josh Harrop's through ball and retained his composure to slot neatly past former Bradford (Park Avenue) goalkeeper Ed Hall.

Ben Atkinson wrapped the game up for the visitors with two minutes to go though, scoring with a deflected effort following Walker's pass.

Brighouse Town threatened to pull off a surprise victory at National League side Harrogate Town after opening the scoring early on through Aaron Martin.

However, Aaron Williams scored a quickfire double for the hosts just before the break to turn things around. Dom Knowles wrapped the game up with a late third goal.

Meanwhile, Liversedge's friendly with AFC Walkington was postponed.
