A FINE team performance from Bradford Golf Union saw them end their two-game losing streak in the Yorkshire Inter-District League, but there were also some stunning individual performances which caught the eye.

Dan Teece, from Baildon Golf Club, played his first game of the season and recorded two huge wins on home territory on Sunday, a 6&5 success with John Reddy in the foursomes and a 5&4 victory in his singles match.

Shipley Golf Club's Sean Coleman also won big in his foursomes, 4&3 alongside Harry Ayrton, and his second success proved to be the most vital of all.

Harrogate had produced a stirring comeback to leave the match poised at 14-12. However, Coleman won a tense singles match by one shot to extend the hosts' lead, and Bradford proceeded to romp to a 22-14 victory.

Northcliffe's Rob Malloy was a big loss in Bradford's defeat at Halifax-Huddersfield three weeks ago, missing the inter-district clash to play in his club's scratch cup, and he showed his importance to the team here.

He starred in his foursomes clash, as he and club-mate James Darcy romped to a 5&4 victory, before recording the home side's final victory of the day, a convincing 4&3 singles win over Michael Robson.

Union captain Martin Gaffney has previously spoken about the advantage of home course knowledge, and his Bradford players appeared to have the Baildon set up worked out straight away.

Harrogate were level after the first two matches, but the hosts proceeded to win five on the spin to hold a seemingly unassailable 10-2 lead going into the afternoon clashes.

Although Gaffney and Andrew Busfield won well, the visitors emerged victorious in five of the opening seven singles to put the game on a knife edge.

Coleman's narrow victory proved crucial, as that was backed up by an important half from Reddy. Teece and Malloy then won handsomely, before Darcy scored Bradford's last point when he halved the final contest.

The league takes a break until August 5, with Bradford's next encounter an away tie at East Riding, who have just ceded top spot to Sheffield after defeat to Halifax-Huddersfield.
