BOWLING Old Lane secured their place in the semi-finals of the Jack Hampshire Cup after winning a memorable third-round tie with Adwalton by 17 runs.

The game saw a staggering 665 runs scored with Bradford Premier League Conference leaders Adwalton making a spirited 324-6 in reply to Old Lane's 341-8.

The highlight of the run spree was an impressive innings of 153 from Old Lane skipper Farakh Hussain. He hammered seven sixes and 20 fours.

Hussain was joined in a second-wicket stand of 214 by Arslan Mahmood (73) before Zeeshan Haider chipped in with 35.

It would have been easy to buckle when faced by such a big total so Adwalton's reply deserved great credit. Half-centuries from Gareth Lee (93), Tom Lindsay (89) and Vinit Patel (78) had Old Lane worried, but they weren't quite enough to pull off a remarkable win.

Championship Two leaders Keighley suffered their second defeat of the weekend in a thrilling clash with Brighouse which saw them go down by one wicket.

Keighley's score of 176 looked slightly below par after opener Adam Smith (63) had given them a great start. Brighouse were indebted to Abid Awain (3-23) and Deron Greaves (3-38) for checking their progress.

Brighouse didn't find the going easy when they batted but edged home with Sabar Sarwant (61) and Asad Mahmood (32no) producing important contributions. Nathan Storton took 3-21 for Keighley.

Jer Lane's hopes of making the last four in their first year in the competition disappeared as they suffered a 27-run defeat against Sandal.

Ian Shuttleworth (54), Matthew Westwood (35) and Colin Hale (33) helped Sandal to post a score of 195-8 despite the efforts of Gurdev Singh (3-35).

Jer Lane were all out for 168 as Sam Noden took 4-34. Chris Ramsden (31) was the top scorer for the league newcomers.

An unbroken second-wicket alliance of 129 between Jack Morrison (76no) and James Conlon (47no) enabled Great Preston to power to a nine-wicket win over Altofts.
