HARRIET Dart couldn’t quite get over the line in the Fuzion 100 Ilkley Trophy.

The 21-year-old Londoner, who was the first Briton to reach the quarter-finals of the $100,000 ITF Women’s Circuit tournament in the four years it has been held, was beaten 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 by teenage Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska.

Dart, who seemed to have trouble serving into the sun in the first set on Centre Court, battled well to take it into a decider but ultimately came up just short as she seemed to lose heart in the final game.

However, Dart, who has been given a wild card into the women’s singles at Wimbledon, has put together a solid grass-court season, reaching the semi-finals at Surbiton and the quarters at both Manchester and Ilkley.

The Ukrainian, who is world ranked 140 compared to Dart’s 198, now meets seventh seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The Russian, who is the only remaining seed in the event, defeated top seed Kaia Kanepi (Estonia), a five-times Grand Slam quarter-finalist, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

The other semi-final is between two qualifiers, with the Czech Republic’s Tereza Smitkova facing Papua New Guinea’s Abigail Tere-Apisah.

Smitkova beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, while Tere-Apisah defeated 2016 winner Evgeniya Rodina (Russia) 6-1, 6-3.

The men’s quarter-finals continued deep into the evening, but the bottom half of the draw was decided earlier, with Australian Jason Kubler defeating fifth seed Peter Polansky (Canada) 3-6 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, while, in a battle of unseeded players, Oscar Otte (Germany) edged out Darian King (Barbados) 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

The women’s singles final on Sunday will start at 11am and the men’s singles final at 3pm in order to try and leave the way clear for the England v Panama World Cup match to be shown at 1pm.
