WEST Bowling’s hopes of a win at a team who were below them in Kingstone Press National Conference League Division Two were in essence dashed inside the first 20 minutes.

Coach Glenn Barraclough said of the 54-4 defeat at Saddleworth Rangers: “We lost Kyle Moore (ankle), Richard Lumb (twisted back) and Liam Darville (swollen hand), which really put us up against it, but we are low on confidence anyway.”

Darville got the visitors’ try, while Ollie Bartle was man of the match.

Bowling put in a good first-half performance but conceded tries either side of the interval, shipping nine tries and nine goals in all.

Queensbury had a number of players unavailable for their Yorkshire Men’s League Division One match at Allerton Bywater, but scored two late tries to win 26-22 and keep their unbeaten record.

Having led 10-0, Bury were on the wrong end of an 18-3 penalty count, which contributed to them being eight points behind with ten minutes left.

However, they regrouped, led by skipper Callum Murgatroyd.

Tries were scored by Stuart Rubery, Sam Cheney, Murgatroyd, Chris Rafferty and Ethan Egerton-Sharp, with goals from Robson Moore (2) and Egerton-Sharp.

Meanwhile, Keighley Albion could only manage tries by Alfie Seeley and Kieron Blakcley in a 60-12 defeat at Cutsyke Raiders.

In Division Three, Andrew Esmond scored four tries for Brighouse Rangers in their 42-12 victory at Kippax Welfare, with Sam Hardcastle, Ben Waud and Doug Heseltine also crossing, while Karl Frankland kicked seven goals.

Cameron Foster (2) and Jordan Myers scored tries in Wyke Academy’s 22-20 home defeat to Dewsbury Celtic in Division Five, with Foster adding four goals.

Birkenshaw Bleudogs leap-frogged Kirkburton Cougars in the same division after beating them 28-18 at home.

In the Premier Division, Bramley Buffaloes lost 22-20 at Siddal Academy.
