NEW Bradford City Women boss Mark Brier is excited about the set-up of the club as they prepare for the start of pre-season trials this week.

Brier has been quick to ensure those with knowledge of the club will be around him for his first season, appointing junior coaches Paul Scott and Qasim Akhtar as his assistants.

And he’ll be hoping that the Bantams’ ambition will impress those coming down this week and next, while he himself looks to be impressed on the training pitch.

Brier said: “It’s been quite a busy week since I started but I’ve now met with all the coaching teams at the club, whose passion and commitment to create a fantastic pathway for all the girls representing Bradford City Women is plain to see.

“There’s great support from the top of the club and, in every meeting I’ve been in, I’ve been made to feel very welcome.

“Paul Scott and Qasim Akhtar, my two assistant first team coaches, have already helped tremendously and are taking weight off what is a mighty task in organising and setting up trial sessions and the pre-season schedule with the open age playing squad."

City will be welcoming faces both old and new down to Rawdon Meadows Playing Fields this week, when trials begin tonight at 7pm.

There will be further trial sessions for the club’s open age teams, all at the same time and venue, lasting until 8.30pm, on Thursday, June 21, Tuesday, June 26 and Thursday, June 28.

There, Brier will hope that he can show both the returning players and potential new signings what he is about, and what the club are about too.

“We’ve got four open age trial evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the next two weeks and we’ll be providing an insight into what kind of training and coaching all the girls will get in the future,” he said.

“I’ve spoken to a few of last season’s players and I’m sure they’ll be along to see what kind of gaffer they’ll be playing for.

“I’m looking forward to it all, even the backwards steps as they are always needed to go forwards.”
