FORMER Bradford City player Peter Beagrie rolled back the years with a fine performance for England in their Veterans World Cup clash with Taiwan, scoring a penalty and assisting a Lee Elam goal with a great run and cross.
England booked their place in the semi-finals in Thailand after a convincing performance. A second win in a row was earned by two goals in each half. Barry Hayles opened the scoring, before Beagrie converted his second spot kick in two days.
In the second half, England pressed home their advantage with more good work out wide by Beagrie, leading to a spectacular headed goal from captain for the day, Lee Elam.
Rod Thornley grabbed England’s fourth late in the game, but Taiwan battled to the end and their efforts were rewarded with a goal scored in spectacular fashion, an over-head kick beating England's ex-Guiseley goalkeeper Steve Dickinson.
Jonny Haigh, wearing number 12 in the squad photo, made his first England start in the tournament.
England's won their final group game 2-1 against New Zealand this morning. A report will follow shortly.
