BULLS captain Lee Smith vows there are still improvements to be made, despite the side's 54-16 win over London Skolars.

The Bulls crossed for 11 tries in total, including a quadruple for Ethan Ryan, to maintain their 100 per cent winning record at Odsal this season.

Smith complimented the ability of Ryan, alongside debutant Rowan Milnes who grabbed two assists, yet did not shy away from the areas that need working on before their game at Newcastle Thunder tonight.

“It’s always good to get another win under our belt but we probably weren’t as ruthless as we could have been and conceded some soft tries which disappointed us,” said Smith.

“Full credit to London for scoring those points, but we need to do better in those positions.

"We concede a high percentage of tries from near our goal line so there are definite improvements to be made.

“The game got a little bit scrappier than we’d have liked and we got drawn into the nitty-gritty.

"Yet we’re still on track. We got the win so we can’t beat ourselves up too much.

“Each week we aim to be better both individually and as a team; it’s engrained throughout the team to improve.

"We know what went wrong and we’ve been putting that right in training.”

Speaking about the club's youngsters, Smith enthused: “One real positive was Ethan’s performance.

"We’ve started to get the ball out to him more now and we are seeing the benefits with some spectacular finishes, none more so than Saturday.

“Rowan is also a very talented kid. He’s very grounded and composed on the pitch, his kicking game created numerous opportunities for us and he will only get better with time.”

Tonight, Smith will be returning to the ground which he called home during his stint in rugby union and believes the pitch will suit the Bulls. However, he also remains wary of the threat posed by what he considers one of the top sides in the competition.

“On their day Newcastle are probably up there with the top four teams in the league, so first of all there needs to be a level of respect there,” said Smith.

“From my experience of playing there, the 4G pitch should allow us to play our expansive style of quick attacking rugby. If we put things right, we should be in for a good evening.

“Every away game we face, we talk about their fans coming out in numbers and teams raising their game against us. It is nothing new to us and we know our support will be there in numbers too.

“It certainly won’t be an easy game, just like at Doncaster I expect a real arm wrestle for the first half. If we can shore up those weaknesses we could come out on top.”
