Dave Halley knows the job is only half done despite earning himself a new contract with the Bulls.

The jet-heeled winger has signed a new one-year deal that sees him remain at Grattan Stadium next season.

Academy product Halley, 20, finally made his Super League debut in April after four years on the fringes and has grasped his opportunities since.

But the former Dudley Hill amateur admits there were concerns he would never make the grade.

"Steve (McNamara) had already said he had doubts about my game and I didn't have the best performances in pre-season," conceded Halley.

"He wasn't too sure where he was going to go with me but he gave me that chance and I've proved him wrong.

"I'm really pleased to have got another contract but I know there's more work ahead.

"My aim now is to hopefully play more games but then next season have a great year and earn a longer contract.

"It's in my hands. That's the incentive - play well and get another one."

Halley scored with his first touch during a dream debut against Hull KR and has gone on to make eight appearances, grabbing his second touchdown versus Wakefield recently.

He concedes he had faced the last-chance saloon though and that prompted an important change of mindset.

"I've approached it better this year and have been trying hard to keep improving," he said.

"There's always people doing extra training here and I knew I had to push myself harder. You don't realise at first but doing the extra hours does pay off."

Bulls boss McNamara added: "We're delighted Dave's staying another year.

"He's been a late developer and, by his own admission, his application earlier in his Bradford career probably wasn't what it should have been.

"But he's certainly knuckled down, particularly over the last six to eight months. Dave's gone from being right on the edges to right back in the frame and I'm confident as and when we do use him.

"There's still big improvements to make but, with his current attitude, he's given himself every opportunity. He deserves this deal."
