Boston United 1 Bradford Park Avenue 2

A last-gasp winner from Adam Boyes made it back to back victories in the Vanarama National League North for Bradford Park Avenue and lifted them up one place to ninth, just four points outside the play-off places.

It was a comeback victory for Avenue as the Pilgrims had taken an early lead but Boyes underlined his value to the team as he bagged a brace to see the visitors bank a deserved three points.

The home side broke the deadlock after a third minute set-piece was converted by a glancing header from the Pilgrims' skipper Jordan Keane.

Avenue had a glorious opportunity to level midway through the first half but Boyes’ well struck shot rattled the frame of Boston’s goal.

Bradford goalkeeper Steven Drench had to be alert minutes later as he raced out to rob Andi Thonoj when the Boston midfielder raced through.

Avenue were level at the interval though after Boyes converted Mark Ross’ 35th minute cross with a bullet header at the far post.

The visitors went close to taking the lead early in the second half as substitute Antoine Remi-Recizac had two shots blocked and from the second rebound, Frank Mulhern saw his effort cleared off the line.

That drama merely delayed Avenue’s winning goal as Boyes bagged his brace when he stabbed home following a goalmouth scramble in the penultimate minute.

Bradford boss Mark Bower was delighted, saying: “Today was all about the performance and I asked the players for that before the game.

“It didn’t have to be about a free flowing performance – it was more about doing the basics right and we did that. After the first 20 minutes I thought we were the better team in the game and deserved the victory.

“Boston have been on a very good run and taken some scalps recently so to come here, a difficult place to get a result, and win is a great victory for the lads and a deserved one.

He continued: "We could hear from their dressing room that they were targeting the fact that we are an ageing team, an old team and that they were going to outrun us.

“But that was another late goal for us and I think that’s 13 in the last ten minutes of games this season and we have only conceded six so people can have their say on the age of our team but we certainly know how to see a game through."
