ATHLETICO shook off a run of four successive defeats to beat struggling visitors St Nicholas 5-2 in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division.

The game was over as a contest by half-time, with the hosts leading 4-1 before they took their foot off the gas in the second half.

Goals for Athletico came from leading scorer Mohammed Qasim (2), taking his tally to nine, Mohammed Ikraaz (2) and Mohammad Raaj.

Stylish Athletico, who are up to fifth, need one more victory from their six remaining games to be mathematically safe.

St Nicks, who have only two points from 14 matches, need a mammoth six wins from eight matches to avoid the drop.

Stanningley Old Boys are second from bottom but picked up a splendid point in a 0-0 draw at leaders Leeds Medics & Dentists.

Medics applied plenty of pressure in the first half, but were kept at bay by the excellent Jake Dalley and the rest of Stanningley's back four, who denied the hosts a shot on target for the opening 25 minutes.

Keeper Jamie Bull also made three fine saves, but Stanningley could have pinched a win in the second half with a bit more composure in front of goal.

Tom Stewart shot just wide for the visitors after 53 minutes before Medics hit the bar with a 30-yarder.

Stanningley should escape relegation with this kind of display, while Medics, whose point was their first in three matches, could have opened the door for third-placed Drighlington, who are seven points behind with four matches in hand, and Stanley United.

In Division Two, Morley Town Reserves drew level with visitors Garforth Crusaders on 30 points after beating them 7-2, although the latter have three games in hand.

Impressive Town were 4-1 ahead by the interval, courtesy of Anthony Linley, James Barstow, Ben Howarth and Ryan Wilks, with the opening three goals coming inside 17 minutes.

Howarth made it 22 for the season with his second after 57 minutes to become the leading scorer in the division, while Dalton Pearson added a late brace.

Oliver Ainsworth was man of the match for Town, who had Danny Sims sent off in the 74th minute.
