THE dream of an all-Yorkshire Amateur League final in the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield is still alive.

Premier Division duo Farsley Celtic Juniors and Grangefield Old Boys are through to the semi-finals and are in opposite halves, with two other YAL clubs (Colton Athletic and Drighlington) waiting to play their quarter-finals.

Juniors beat fellow YAL side Horsforth St Margaret's 3-0, with a great save from Jordan Wright proving a turning point against the Championship Division team.

Celtic upped their game after that to lead 1-0 at half-time and dictated play in the second half to book a tie against the winners of Colton and Redcar Newmarket.

On target for Farsley were Joe Firth, Louis Surtees and Paul Dockerty.

Grangefield had Luke Hunter sent off inside three minutes at Whitby-based Fishburn United, who are second in the North Riding League Premier Division.

Tom Needham was the old boys' man of the match for several one-on-one saves and he was backed up by his defence against a good team.

Nick Smith (penalty) on the hour and Andy Doogan, ten minutes later with a bullet header from an inswinging corner by Matt Tomlinson, netted for Grangefield, who needed another great Needham save late on to book a tie against either Drighlington or Reckitts.

Former Liversedge manager Eugene Lacy had a top-notch game as referee in Athletico's 2-1 defeat at Leeds Medics & Dentists in the Premier Division.

Athletico went ahead in some style in the 43rd minute when the skilful Hassan Khan's cross was side-footed home first time by Mohammed Qasim.

But two goals in three minutes early in the second half did for Athletico as leaders Medics maintained their 100 per cent record.

Morley Town beat St Nicholas 6-3 thanks to goals from Ryan Hartley (3), Matthew Agar, Rob Gumbley and Jovan Kioseff.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys went down 6-4 to Collingham Juniors Old Boys in a Championship Division game that was switched to Collingham.

Anthony Wilson (2), Johnny Hunt and Steve Wales were Spurs' marksmen but they are still joint-top with Calverley United, who also lost.

The latter side switched their home match against Beeston St Anthony's to Woodhouse Grove School's 3G pitch and the hosts lost skipper Ben Cook with a fractured ankle that will keep him out for the rest of the season.

United led 2-1 at half-time thanks to Jordan Williams' long-range shot in the 27th minute and a Matty Wilson goal 14 minutes later following a free-kick, with Jake Topp scoring between these efforts downwind from 35 yards.

Yet Beeston, like Calverley, preferred playing into the wind and scored twice to triumph, despite ten minutes of United pressure at the end.

Visitors Shire Academics won 3-2 at St Bede's in a contest that was predictably close, although the hosts never quite got to grips with a change in formation.

Man-of-the-match Tahweed Ahmed came on to equalise for Bede's from 16 yards after a one-two, and Sam Marshall made it 2-2, but it needed some top saves from James Webber to keep Bede's at bay.

Trinity Old Boys led 5-1 at half-time on their way to a 6-1 victory at home to Tyersal in Division Two.

Goals for the old boys came from Nick Baxter (2), James Morrison, Danny Morris, Steve Travers and Tom Greenwood, who got the sixth with 20 minutes left.

Man of the match Josh Hyde netted for Tyersal, who are a point behind eighth-placed Trinity with a game in hand.

Morley Town triumphed 8-0 at Huddersfield Amateur, with Ben Howarth (2), James Barstow (2), Tom Swaby, Anthony Linley, Oliver Ainsworth and Dalton Pearson on target.

It was a much better day for Tyersal Reserves, who became only the second side to lower the colours of Norristhorpe Reserves in Division Five.

Ady Lowther hit the late winner for Tyersal, whose other goal came from a 25-yarder by Nick Leech after Sam Everett had levelled for Norristhorpe.
