AFTER being taken to extra-time the previous week in the Yorkshire Amateur League's Terry Marflitt Trophy before winning 4-1, Stanningley Old Boys were expecting a close encounter in their re-match against Idle in the preliminary round of the Yorkshire Old Boys' Shield.

However, Premier Division Stanningley gave an improved display – despite half of their players being at a wedding reception the previous night – against their Division One visitors, triumphing 3-0.

Goals from George Rutherford and keeper-turned-striker Luke Clifford gave the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead.

Both sides received a somewhat harsh red card in the second half, but Stanningley remained solid at the back and scored a third goal through substitute Jake Dalley to not only kill the game off but book a first-round visit to Horsforth St Margaret's.

Stockton West End, who are mid-table in the North Riding League, triumphed 6-2 at Prospect, who are from Yorkshire Amateur League Division Four in another tie.

The hosts played as well as they were allowed to by West End, who led 1-0 at the interval before they took control of midfield. Kingsley Rowe netted both Prospect's goals.

In the Premier Division, Athletico, who played some neat football, went down 3-1 at home to Alwoodley in a battle of teams who are not yet at their peak.

Callum Armstrong netted all three for the visitors, but Athletico's goal was a peach of a 25-yard free-kick by Mohammed Kraam.

Athletico are tenth with a point from four outings, but Drighlington are second behind Leeds Medics & Dentists after a 6-1 victory at a physical Beeston Juniors.

Goals for the winners came from leading scorer Shane Sowden (2), Sam Thorpe (2), James Bradd and Ryan Rhodes.

Grangefield only took 11 players to 100 per centers Stanley United, due to injuries, suspensions, holidays and work commitments, but lost one injured in their 3-0 defeat and had another sent off.

In the Championship Division, a Collingham Juniors Old Boys player officiated in the late absence of the referee, who was ill.

Visitors Gildersome Spurs Old Boys won 4-1 to climb to third, courtesy of goals from Ben Keedy, Dave Dennison, George Taylor and Johnny Hunt.

Sr Bede's drew 1-1 at Mount St Mary's, failing to take their chances against a side who one observer said were as bad as at any point in the last 15 seasons.

Adeeb Jawad rifled home from ten yards to give Bede's a deserved lead but his injury with half an hour left took away some momentum, and St Mary's equalised with a minute left. Derry Myers and Sam Marshall were joint men of the match for Bede's.

Perfect Calverley United are up to second after a 5-3 victory at Wortley, with Simon McQuiston (2), Matty Wilson, 17-year-old Josh Debenham and Jordan Wilkinson on target.

In Division One, Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves, who led 1-0 at half-time via Ben Wilson, could not back up their first victory of the season, losing 3-1 at home to Rothwell.

Tyersal feel that luck is not with them in Division Two after a 4-1 defeat against visitors Colton Athletic, Jake Stott getting the consolation goal, while in Division Four, Drighlington Reserves thumped Thornesians Reserves 8-0.

Hosts Drig, who are second in the table behind Morley Amateur, had goal from Matty Roller (4), taking him to seven for the season, Declan Wilkinson (2), Andy Arnett and Johnny Lakin.
