TOM Field used to clean the boots for Jake Reeves at Brentford.

But the left back has had to put his skates on to join up with City so quickly.

The 20-year-old was only made aware of the interest when he trained Sunday morning – but had driven up to West Yorkshire by the end of the day.

Time has been of the essence for Stuart McCall after Adam Chicksen’s cheekbone injury.

McCall was straight on to head of recruitment Greg Abbott following the Blackpool game and Field’s name came up. He had been one on the radar before they signed Chicksen in the summer.

McCall said: “He’s played at Elland Road and against Brighton and Newcastle – he’s been involved in some big Championship games.

“He looks one that can come straight in. He likes to get forward and puts crosses in.

“I’ve got to thank Brentford for letting it happen so quickly. Getting the lad up Sunday night was brilliant.

“I’m pleased that we’ve managed to get somebody in who’s well thought of. Knowing how highly they think of him, hopefully he’ll be good.”

Field, a boyhood Brentford fan, signed a new deal last season that will keep him with the Bees until the summer of 2020.

But both parent club and player see the loan until January as another stage of his development.

Field, who has made 16 starts for Brentford, said: “Playing for your own club is great but you’ve always got to look for new challenges.

“I didn’t think it would turn around this quickly but I had no second thoughts.

“Bradford are such a big club with a massive stadium and ridiculous support – it’s a chance to get as much experience as I can.

“Playing at Leeds last season was a good atmosphere but I’m hoping Bradford will be better.

“I do like to get forward and scored a couple before. I like to get crosses into the box and provide assists and Bradford like their full backs attacking so that will suit me.”
