ECCLESHILL United’s talisman Charlie Flaherty is looking forward to the forthcoming season and hopes that his team-mates come back with same desire that they showed towards the end of the last campaign.

Speaking after picking up both the players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year awards at the Eagles’ presentation evening, the utility man said: “The mood at the awards night was very good because it had been a promising season for us.

“Sean (manager Regan) said to everyone 'go and enjoy the break with your families, have a couple of beers if you want and go away on your holidays but be ready when you come back because we will work you hard'.

“The results were good in the last three months, and Sean is happy with the squad at the moment.

"We played some of the tops sides at the back end and Sean said that they were meeting us at the wrong time because we were the form team.

“The boss wants us to come back in and pick up where we left off, keep that winning mentality, and I agree 100 per cent.

"If we can keep all the lads together, and they all seemed keen at the end of last season, we won’t go into any game concerned.

“We played Emley, Hall Road (Rangers) and Hallam and there was no fear at the end of the season no matter where we went.

"We had started the season well and we had some class footballers at the club, but we had a spell in the middle of the season when it wasn’t going so well.

"Every manager has his own style, and some of those players left, but whoever Sean brought in was as good, if not better, as the ones that had gone.

“It had an effect when the players left. There was a period of transition, but it came good.

"It just needed a bit of time because we had the potential and we worked hard on the training ground and the results started to show.

“Chris Lever and Jonathan Irvine came in, and they’re class to be honest, as are some of the other players who joined last season.

"I’m certainly looking forward to the new season and I think that the other lads will be. Bring it on!”
