A PAIR of 3-1 defeats have ended Littletown’s outside chance of winning the Taylor's Timber West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division title.
Following on from their setback at leaders Lower Hopton, they were beaten in a bigger shock at Honley, whose goals came from James Clapham. Daniel Lorryman and Calum McLachlan, with Adam Jordan bagging a consolation.
The race for the trophy now rests between Lower Hopton and Newsome.
Mirfield-based Lower Hopton, with strikes from Aiden Schofield, Anthony Brown and Brighton Mugadza, had a 3-1 home victory over Golcar United, while second-placed Newsome had braces from Joel Bryce and Kitson Gayle and a single from Josh Shields in a 5-2 victory at one-time contenders Steeton, who had Alex Yates and Andy Briggs on target.
Campion returned from their trip to Lepton Highlanders pointless after a Jonathon Bullivant treble and one from Gary Bradley gave the home side a 4-2 victory.
Meanwhile, the scramble for the four promotion places out of Division One has virtually been decided, with leaders Route One Rovers, Wakefield City and Thornton United seemingly playing for positions one to three.
The fourth place is probably between Holmfirth Town and West Horton.
Rovers strengthened their bid for the title with a 4-0 home victory against Steeton Reserves.
Wakefield City, who beat Wibsey 4-0 in midweek to move into second, held onto that spot with another four-goal victory over Westbrook YMCA.
Third-placed Thornton United kept up their bid with a 6-1 home success against West Horton, with John Selby (2) Brendan Maltby, Elliott Holmes, Brendon Folan and Marcus Davey netting for Thornton.
Wibsey ended their season with a 1-1 draw at Britannia Sports.
Cellar dwellers Hunsworth, who lost 4-0 at Golcar United Reserves, could move out of the bottom two with victories in their final two games.
* Steeton and Littletown meet in tomorrow night’s Premier Division Cup semi-final at Campion FC (7.30), with the winners meeting Golcar United.
