ECCLESHILL Punjab roared into the League Cup final with victory over firm favourites Tyersal.

The 2-1 win at Rawdon Meadow takes Eccleshill into their first ever cup final

After an uninspiring first half, a five-minute spell after the break saw the underdogs shock Tyersal with two goals from Waheed Hussain.

Tyersal pulled a goal back from Joseph Broadhead late in the second half, but the damage had been done by Hussain's two-goal blast just after half-time.

In the Premier Division, Oakenshaw and Thornton United enjoyed a five-goal thriller at Harold Park.

Oakey were indebted to new club captain Joe Walsh, who scored a hat-trick on his debut as skipper, to ensure they took three points.

Marcus Edwards opened the scoring for United after 20 minutes, but Oakey replied when Walsh netted his first goal.

The new skipper added his second with an improvised side kick to give the home team a half-time lead.

Walsh hit his third on the resumption, forcing the ball over the line after a goalmouth scramble.

Thornton replied when Dan Cunningham fired a brilliant free-kick in off the crossbar to set up a tense finale.

Thornton then went down to ten men, and both teams had chances to win in the closing stages but could not add to the goal tally.

West Bowling beat Ventus United 6-1 with a first half hat-trick from birthday boy Andrew Kenyon.

Bowling scored within five minutes of the kick-off – Joe Wood holding up the ball before teeing up Kenyon who hit a screamer into the bottom of the net.

A corner by Jordon Lee Hagyard found Kenyon on the edge of the box, and his shot went through a ruck of players to deceive the visiting goalkeeper.

After 25 minutes, Jason Shields hit a shot from outside the box to notch his first goal for the champions elect.

For the second time Bowling forward Chris Wood saw a shot come off the post, but it bounced nicely for Kenyon to complete his first half hat-trick.

A combination of good goalkeeping and fine defending kept the score down until the 75th minute when Bowling's Aidan Day hit a 35-yard bullet past the keeper.

Bowling's defence were caught out though when Thomas Briggs found himself one-on-one with keeper Ashley Onitiri, and Briggs made no mistake to reduce the arrears.

Soon afterwards, Day converted another long range shot to regain Bowling's five-goal advantage.

With Oakenshaw beating Thornton – and just three league games to go – Bowling will be glad of their six-point advantage at the top of the table.
