ALEX Jones has set his sights on going up automatically with City.

The striker heads into the final ten games of the season focused on gate-crashing League One's top two.

Jones scored the winner against Peterborough on Saturday – a result that has created a new club record of 26 games since their last home defeat.

The Bantams currently trail second-placed Fleetwood by five points and all four teams above them have played less.

Yet Jones believes automatic promotion can still be a realistic target during the run-in and said: "Definitely. I don't see why not until it's mathematically impossible.

"That's got to be the aim. All the lads and staff want to chase down those top two places. There are 30 points to play for and there's no reason why we can't go on a great winning run and get into the top two.

"We're creating a bit of momentum. We've just got to keep that going and build on it again game after game to get as many points on the board as we can."

There was some dispute over who scored the only goal in City's latest win. Charlie Wyke and James Meredith both claimed it – and Wyke was announced on the tannoy – but referee Brett Huxtable confirmed afterwards that it was Jones who first forced the ball over the line.

His second goal in three games takes Jones up to 12 on the season. He would love to hit 20 and emulate strike partner Wyke.

He said: "That would be really satisfying because I've missed about nine weeks of the season. If I hadn't missed all those games, I'd have definitely got there. If I can still do that after missing two months or so, then I've got to be delighted.

"They all count. It doesn't matter how they go in. I've put it over the line, Mezza put it over the line and then Chaz put it over the line.

"We were winding each other up after – but Charlie's scored enough this season. He needs to share them out a bit!"

Jones started up front with Wyke for the first time and he felt they worked well together on another difficult Valley Parade pitch.

"He's a big, strong lad, so nine times out of ten he's going to win the flick-ons or hold it up. It's easier to make movements playing around him.

"You've got to play the conditions and the pitch was lively and bouncy. You've got to adapt your game.

"We played a few more balls into the channels to turn them and put them under pressure – but it's really good if you know he's going to win most of the aerial duels."

Stuart McCall continues to downplay City's promotion prospects and insists the results he checks involve the sides challenging their play-off place.

The Bantams chief said: "We'll just concentrate on what we can do. We certainly don't look at the top two.

"My first instinct is to see how teams that have been in and around us have done like Rochdale, Oxford, Millwall and Southend.

"If we can get to the points tally we're aiming for, we can still finish strongly and make it a really good season."

Nicky Law missed his first league game of the season after tweaking his knee but McCall is hopeful that he will be fine to train on Thursday in time for the Coventry trip.
