FARSLEY Celtic showed little spirit in going down 6-2 at home to Robin Hood Athletic in their Leeds & District FA Senior Cup quarter-final.

They were 4-0 behind at the break before managing to draw the second half 2-2 thanks to Danny Lyons and an own goal.

Celtic manager Barry Thirsk did not mince his words, saying: "Not a good day for Farsley with a collection of poor individual mistakes coupled with poor performances and attitudes, which is rare for us as a team.

"We gifted Robin Hood five goals – all individual errors. Take nothing away from Robin Hood, they are good side and punished us severely, but the score flattered them a bit as we had 50 per cent possession.

"However, 4-0 at half-time says it all, so we made some changes then and looked better, but some players need to have a good look at themselves and step up their game."

In the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division, Stanningley Old Boys' 2-2 home draw against Farnley Sports was a good, old-school derby played on a heavy pitch.

Seventh-placed Stanningley, whose man of the match was Ash Crooks, were disappointed not to have won, having conceded a late equaliser, but on balance a draw was a fair result, although 11th-placed Farnley had the better possession.

After a goalless first half, Farnley took the lead but Stanningley changed personnel and formation and equalised through an own goal from a Nathan Roebuck cross.

With about ten minutes to go, Stanningley took the lead through their only decent move of the match, Tom Stewart and George Rutherford combining to set up Terrell Phillips, who volleyed home from 20 yards.

Farnley's equaliser came after a shot from the edge of the area by Shane Gaunt bobbled in front of the Stanningley keeper, who should have saved it.

Grangefield gave a muddled first-half display at home to Beeston St Anthony's and were trailing 3-0 at the interval.

Nick Smith (penalty), Matt Tomlinson and Niall Coleman netted for the old boys in the second half but they still lost 5-3, allowing Beeston to leapfrog them and sparking fears of being dragged into a relegation battle.

In the Championship Division, although fifth-placed Drighlington defeated basement boys Alwoodley Reserves 4-0, the performance displeased manager Bob Greenwood, with wayward passing being one example of a drop in standards.

Greenwood said: "Next we play Alwoodley first team in the Shield quarter-finals and we will need to improve considerably to compete."

Drig took the lead with an Andrew Arnett header after 15 minutes but the score stayed that way for another hour. Eventually Ryan Rhodes, direct from a corner, Sam Thorpe and a rare Mikey Durham header netted for Drig, who have a minimum of three games in hand on the teams above them and would go top if they won them all.

Chris Coates scored a consolation for eighth-placed Calverley United in their 3-1 defeat at third-placed Mount St Mary's.

Division One leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys defeated third-bottom visitors Dewsbury Rangers 5-1. Mike Hall (2), Ben Keedy, Lucas Scott and Conor Firth were on target for the winners, who have a one-point lead over Leeds Independent, despite having played two games less.

Independent, now undefeated in six, handed Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves their sixth successive defeat, this time 4-1.

Fourth-placed Horsforth St Margaret's and third-placed St Bede's, who are both also in title contention, met at Weetwood Sports' 3G pitch, with the Leeds club winning 3-2.

James Watson put Saints ahead but they then trailed to a Nicky Scullion brace before Watson levelled. Horsforth then won it with a debatable penalty decision for handball, which Jake Williams converted.

Creative defender Chris Drake was man of the match for Bede's, who threatened Horsforth so much that they took the ball to the corner flag with fully ten minutes left.

The top two met in Division Two, with visitors Idle winning 4-2 at leaders Collegians despite, as per usual, conceding the opening goal.

Superb work from Luke Chandler set up Ryan Mitchell for the equaliser and, with Tom Simonett dominating midfield, two brilliant goals from full back Ryan Doherty made it 3-1.

Collegians' second came from a questionable penalty decision but Idle replied with a fourth, Aaron Irving scoring with a looping shot after great work from Mitchell.

Idle are now only three points behind Collegians with two games in hand.

Division Three leaders Fairbank United also produced their best performance of the season, defeating fourth-placed visitors Leeds Medics & Dentists Fourths 5-0.

Omar Kante gave the hosts the lead before leaving the pitch injured and substitute Zaakir Javed made it 2-0.

In the second half, Zaakir got his second after an hour, with Hussain Iqbal making it 4-0 in the 75th minute after a good advantage was played.

Fairbank's top scorer Mahmadu Kante missed a number of chances but found a composed finish on a counter-attack for their fifth prior to Saturday's trip to second-placed East Ardsley Wanderers.

Mick Duggan (2), Kingsley Hall (2), Brandon Hammond and Chris Sedgwick were the marksmen for a strong-looking St Bede's Reserves line-up.

But the 6-0 victory over second-bottom visitors North Leeds Reserves was only cellar dwellers Saints' second win of the season.

They remain bottom of the table but are only a point behind North Leeds Reserves, who have three games in hand.

In-form seventh-placed Drighlington Reserves lost 4-0 at Garforth Crusaders.
