TWO clubs with over 100 years of Sunday football history clashed at Horsfall Stadium in the first round of the FA Sunday Cup.

West Bowling, who are celebrating their 50th year, hosted Queens Park from Merseyside, who are into a 60th year.

After an even first half, with the visitors slightly the better team, Bowling had a purple patch of 20 minutes, moving in front on the hour mark when Aidan Day beat two defenders in the box to slot home the first goal.

Ten minutes later, Glyn Hirst ran on to a poor backpass to put Bowling into the next round after a 2-0 success.

Thornton United joined Bowling in the next round but, after twice being in the lead, needed extra time to see off another Liverpool side in Kennelwood.

Dan Cunningham, with a first-minute bullet header and a thunderbolt of a shot five minutes before the interval, gave United a 2-1 interval lead but the Merseysiders equalised late in the second half to force the extra half hour.

Substitute Emmot Parr-Gallagher stole the show there with a hat-trick – including a 35-yard free-kick – in what was a superb Thornton team performance.

Oakenshaw, the Bradford Sunday Alliance League's third national representatives, will have to wait until this coming Sunday to play their tie against West Riding County FA Sunday Cup holders Ferrybridge WMC.

Their scheduled tie at Field over the weekend was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

It was also Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup day, with Allerton defeating White Eagles 12-1 – five of the goals going to Tian Richards.

Mick Dougan also bagged five goals to help AFC Titans progress to the second round of the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup.

Man of the match Ben Meehan also played a vital role in the 8-2 win at home to Chapel House, while the other goals in a great performance came from David Geddes, Anthony Presto and Sam Preston.

In a limited league programme, Lyceum are six points clear in Division One after a 2-0 victory over Thornton United Reserves, with Aron Heywood hitting a brace at Arkwright Street.

Prospect are second after a 3-1 victory over Beldon Oddies, with James and Reece Fennell and substitute Daniel Williamson getting on the scoresheet for the winners.

In Division 1A, Woodman Wanderers hit six against Beldon Oddies Reserves, four of which went to Daniel Doyle.

Ryan Whitfield bagged a hat-trick for Salts as they top Division 1B after beating Westwood Park 5-3.

Throstle Nest had three trebles in their 11-4 defeat of Turf, with Daniel Moralle, Michael Rothwell and Sam Speight being the goal heroes.

Gaping Goose still head Division 2B, even though Scholemoor hit them with a four-goal salvo in the second half after being 3-1 down at the interval.

Craig King, Robert Sanderson and Ryan Warner had given the leaders that half-time advantage, with Christopher Ryan replying for the visitors.

But goals from Mark Lee, Bradley Peel, Nicholas Pemberton and substitute Ryan Quinn then proved too much for the leaders.
