BRIGHOUSE Town have postponed their Evo-Stik League home fixture against Colne this weekend following the harrowing events at their ground on Monday.
Town were hosting Shaw Lane in a League Cup tie but the game was cut short by tragedy when visiting defender Dan Wilkinson collapsed on the pitch an hour into the tie.
Brighouse manager Paul Quinn administered CPR and a nurse who was in the crowd also attended, with both clubs' medical staff being first on the scene as the club's defibrillator was put to use.
The player, who had suffered a suspected heart attack, was whisked to the nearby Calderdale General Hospital in Halifax by paramedics but died during the night.
The club opened up the Dual Seal Stadium to members of the public the following day and officials, supporters and players from both clubs, along with other well-wishers, laid flowers at the spot where the defender fell.
As a mark of respect, there was no other option than to call off the Division One North game against Colne, with emotions still high and the grief following the death of the 26-year-old former Hull City player so raw.
