DESPITE the excessively wet weather,many of the area’s semi-pro clubs escaped postponements on a dull and damp Saturday in West Yorkshire.
There were pitch inspections planned at most local grounds and even further afield,with the west side of the Pennines taking the worst of the tail end of storm Abigale.
However, most ofthe games did go ahead but three of the nine non-league clubs were thwarted.
Guiseley and Farsley Celtic beat the weather as they staged home games,while Bradford Park Avenue, Brighouse Town, Albion Sports and Thackley were all away.
Silsden’s home fixture against AFC Liverpool in the North West Counties League Division was the first to be confirmed as being postponed when the pitch at the Angel Telecom Stadium failed an early morning inspection.
Liversedge had arranged a 10.30am inspection and said it was 50/50 but the referee who inspected it left his decision until a little later.
However, the Northern Counties East League Premier Division game against Retford United still fell by the wayside.
In the lower tier of the same league, Eccleshill United were due to be at home to AFC Emley but the opposition were saved from making the short trip as the surface at the Mitton Group Stadium also failed a morning inspection.
The Eagles’ director of football Adrian Benson said that standing water was the problem.
