SKIPPER Pat McGuire picked up two of the three main awards at Thackley’s presentation evening.

McGuire, who played a crucial role in keeping the squad together when the club encountered problems early in the season, landed the players’ player of the year and the committee’s player of the year.

The management’s player of the year accolade was collected by Kristian Hargreaves, while two rising stars swept the board with two gongs apiece from the under-19s and reserve team awards.

Charlie Baker won the reserve team management’s player of the year and the under-19 side’s players’ player of the year awards. Keeper Matt Keane was named under-19s management player of the year and reserve team players’ player of the year.

Dennyboys spokesman Steve Paley said: “It was remarkable that they each won opposite awards but they are both very good young players.

“Matt Keane has been the saviour in some games for both the reserves and the under-19s this season and everyone expects him to break into the first-team squad in the coming season.

“His brother Matt is a centre forward and he has scored a couple of important goals but he is only just making his mark at that level.

“Charlie has already made a few appearances in the first team so he will probably be in the manager’s plans for the new season. He has mainly been a substitute but he did start and played the full 90 minutes when we drew 1-1 at Cleethorpes at the end of March.”
