Omar Daley can stamp his own mark on City, David Wetherall insisted today.

The Jamaican winger has taken time to settle after being earmarked as the natural successor to Jermaine Johnson.

The inevitable comparisons between the two Reggae Boyz have piled added pressure on January recruit Daley, who was recently dropped for two games.

But he bounced back to score a cracking goal against Blackpool to add to the pile-driver he scored at Rotherham.

Wetherall claims the "new Johnson" tag did Daley no favours - and reckons he is emerging from the winger's shadow to play his own part in City's fight to stay up. The caretaker-boss said: "Omar is not a clone of JJ and to say that did put more pressure on him.

"People immediately expected Omar to be exactly the same and that's unfair. He's his own player and has got different strengths."

Daley has played eight games since joining City from American outfit Charleston Battery. Like Johnson, this is his second bite at the cherry in England after a brief spell earlier in his career at Reading and Preston.

Having arrived mid-season, Daley was not allowed a settling-in period and his performances have earned mixed reviews. But he has shown flashes of the talent that caught Colin Todd's eye and Wetherall believes that the winger is now getting accustomed to his new surroundings.

"He came to the football club halfway through his pre-season and had a deal of catching up to. Omar also had to get used to the English game so there has been a lot of work and lot of habits we've been trying to get into him.

"But the couple of goals he's scored so far have been superb and they will do him the world of good.

"The main thing we're looking for from Omar is a level of consistency - and that's the same with all the players."
