LEEDS United skipper Stephen Warnock has called on his team-mates to be resilient as they bid to avoid relegation from the Sky Bet Championship.

United, who are at Derby County tomorrow night, have struggled since Neil Redfearn took over on a permanent basis at the beginning of last month.

A run of four games without a victory, which started after a win at home to Derby, has seen them fall to 20th in the table.

On their day this season, Leeds have shown they can compete with the league's best – beating promotion hopefuls Derby, Middlesbrough and Bournemouth.

But former England international Warnock admits that, after weeks of inconsistency, they now have other things on their mind.

Yet the ex-Liverpool left back says that, despite their slump, he is still happy with the squad and has called on his team-mates to dig deep in their bid to move away from the bottom three.

Warnock admitted: "We are in a fight – but potentially we are good enough to pull away from it.

"We have goal-scorers and we have ability to get away from it but we need a fighting spirit and hopefully that will come to the fore."

United have been slipping down the table on a weekly basis but Warnock is one of the few of their players who have shown decent form, not only reclaiming a place in the team but also being given the captain's armband.

It does not get any easier for Leeds, who have only picked up six points from a possible 33 away from home this season.

After Derby, they are at in-form Bolton after travelling to Premier League outfit Sunderland for an FA Cup tie that is a repeat of the 1973 final.

Following the Bolton clash, Leeds will host Birmingham City and Bournemouth before their derby at Huddersfield Town, where United have won just once in 50 years, at the end of January.
