ALBION SPORTS are the only one of the area’s four eligible teams left in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Cup after tonight’s third-round ties.
Albion reached the quarter-finals with a 4-1 home win over Yorkshire Amateur at Throstle Nest. The Premier Division side dominated possession against their Division One opponents but struggled to score until netting three goals in the last three minutes.
James Firth had equalised after Ammers had taken a fifth-minute lead but Albion didn’t get in front until Matt Mathers’ 87th-minute strike. Alex Cusack and Brice Tianai added the other goals.
ECCLESHILL UNITED followed Thackley and Liversedge out of the competition. The Eagles lost 3-1 at home to AFC Mansfield after missing a host of chances and having a penalty saved.
