James Hanson is set to miss City's FA Cup first-round clash against FC Halifax Town on Sunday.
The striker had been looking forward to playing at The Shay for the first time in his career but is unlikely to feature because of a thigh injury.
Manager Phil Parkinson explained at training today that Hanson was seeing the same specialist he saw last season to see if the problem is connected to the calf issues he has had before.
“I don't think there’s any damage in there but he feels he can’t get up to full pace," said Parkinson.
"He's not been himself since coming back."
