Gainsborough Trinity 4 Farsley 1
THE road to Wembley came to a dead end in Lincolnshire for Farsley as they lost to Conference North outfit Gainsborough Trinity.
However, Farsley tested their higher-ranking hosts and this FA Cup second qualifying-round tie was not as straightforward as the scoreline suggests.
Neil Parsley’s men played their full part in an entertaining match but it was Trinity’s day and early goals in both halves had their visitors always chasing the game.
Ciaran Toner gave Trinity an eighth-minute lead with a well-struck volley from just outside the area and Liam Davis finished a good move that had included Trinity’s former Bradford Park Avenue striker Paul Beesley.
Lewis Nightingale was denied by home keeper Jan Budtz just before the interval.
Just minutes after the restart Dominic Roma added a third before Simon Russell made if four before the hour mark. Nightingale got his and Farsley’s just reward from a deflected free-kick 12 minutes from time.
