Brighouse Town 2, Bradford Park Avenue 3
AVENUE just managed to hold out for a victory at the Dual Seal Stadium as hosts Brighouse mounted a spirited comeback.
The visitors raced into a three-goal lead but Town pulled two goals back in an all-action first half.
In contrast, the second period remained goalless as both sides mounted sporadic attacks between the substitutions.
The opening goal stemmed from a Joe Colbeck shot in the 12th minute. Town keeper Jacob Giles blocked with his legs and also the follow-up effort from Danny Frost before Chib Chilaka tapped in the loose ball.
A Tyrone Gay foul on Frost resulted in a penalty that Richard Marshall took. Giles also parried that but the rebound went back to Marshall and he made it 2-0.
Former Guiseley keeper Giles’ luck was definitely out on the night as he got a hand to Chilaka’s later shot but the ball looped over him into the net.
Chris Fisher converted a Leon Henry cross for the hosts five minutes before the break and Henry slid in to make it 3-2 right on the stroke of half-time.
Meanwhile, Thackley beat Knaresborough Town 3-0 with a first-half brace from Mike Garrod and a second-period strike by Ryan Farrell.
Tomorrow night sees Albion Sports heading to Barnoldswick Town as the friendly matches continue to come thick and fast.
