Bradford Park Avenue boss John Deacey will be tightening up on discipline on the field after a season blighted by a glut of suspensions.

Centre back Ryan Qualter was the latest player to sit out a game for an accumulation of yellow cards but Deacey had no control over that.

The young defender has picked up just one booking since he signed for Avenue, with the rest collected while at former club Ossett Town.

Deacey said: “The amount of suspensions we’ve had has been a disgrace and we have spoken about it in the dressing room and at training.

“I don’t mind a booking when it’s been a hard tackle – if the player feels it is a fair one when he goes into it but it just didn’t come off, or that the ref gives out a harsh card. But to be honest, most of our bookings haven’t been like that.

“We have had a go at the players and left them in no doubt as to how badly their conduct has hit us this year.

“When things are not going well, you have to look at yourself. I do that all the time and if I don’t like what I see, I’m the first to judge myself. I expect the same from the players.”

There were some presentations to charities before last weekend’s home game against Histon following pay-out from the Football Association of money earned by Avenue’s run in the FA Cup last season.

Horsfall press officer Lewis Sale said: “There was some confusion because a lot of people thought last season’s presentations to charity were from that campaign but they were actually for the previous season.

“When you reach the first-round proper, the club get the prize money round by round but also get a share of a pot once the FA Cup final has been played and the FA have done their sums. The clubs donate that to their chosen charities.

“We only reached the fourth qualifying round this season, against Kidderminster Harriers, and we went out in the replay at their place.

So last season’s presentations were for the year before when we went out at Totton and last week’s were for the Doncaster Rovers game.”

Club historian Tim Clapham has marked the 25 years since Bradford Park Avenue reformed by producing another literary work.

The booklet will be on sale for £5 at the club shop during Easter Monday’s final home game of the season against Stalybridge Celtic.
