Andrew Davies column

Our new signing Aaron Mclean is a nasty player – but I mean that in a nice way.

He’s the type of striker that defenders hate because he is consistently on the move and trying to unsettle you.

He never gives centre halves a second. He’s a very strong boy and he has got a very good leap.

He jumps really high for a small lad, which surprised me a couple of times when I’ve played against him.

Ironically I was at Sheffield United on loan when I last faced him for Peterborough and he never gave us a minute’s peace.

He is proven at this level and I hope he’s still the same player who scored goals in League One and League Two.

He’s 30 now and the one thing the manager will want to make sure is that he still has that hunger. I’m sure that’s the case.

I don’t know how players can’t be hungry to succeed right up to the day they stop playing.

I think he’s a really important signing for the club. At his age, Aaron’s still got three or four solid years ahead of him.

He should be really excited at this great opportunity to come to a club like ours.

Nahki was a great success story for us and I was sorry to see him go but we’ve got to move on. That’s the way football is.

When one player goes, you bring another one in. You cannot stand still.

When I first came in, Nahki was a scrawny-looking kid – a bit lightweight but you could see he had ability.

Once he started playing you could see him grow in confidence. He’d not had that at Carlisle and you noticed the difference straight away.

I remember that fantastic long-range goal he scored against Rochdale in the FA Cup. But he was doing that in training so it wasn’t a surprise to me.

Nahki always had a bit of arrogance about him, which is not always a bad thing – especially for a striker.

He’s a top player and did a fantastic job scoring a lot of goals for Bradford.
