Bradford & Bingley have signed former Bulls winger Rikki Sheriffe.

The 29-year-old has union experience with Newcastle Falcons but has mainly played league with Halifax, York City Knights, Harlequins and Doncaster.

“He is likely to play some part for us on Saturday,” said the Bees’ first-team manager Benji Pickin, whose side are aiming for a third straight home win after narrow victories over Stockport and Firwood Waterloo.

The Wagon Lane triumphs have lifted the Bees to tenth in SSE National League Three North, and one place above them are this weekend's opponents Westoe, who are also on 16 points.

Pickin added: “We won’t be taking them lightly, however, as they have been deducted five points for fielding an unregistered player, and they had a good 41-10 home win last Saturday over their derby rivals Billingham.”

The Bees will, however, be without centre Suka Hafanga, who is in the Tongan squad to face Romania on Saturday in Bucharest.

Tonga also face France and Wales over the next two weekends.

Bradford Salem are sixth in SSE Yorkshire Division Two, but first-team manager Neil Klenk is adamant that they should be top.

Salem won their first four matches but have lost four of their last five.

Klenk said: “The only team to have beaten us convincingly are Leodiensian but we have suffered three soul-destroying defeats out of the last four in Moortown, Old Rishworthians and Sheffield Medicals.

“We would beat Medicals five times out of ten, Moortown nine times out of ten and Rishworthians 49 times out of 50, so you could write a book about our experiences.

“We should be top, and Saturday's match at home to West Leeds, who we have a great connection with in terms of players and coaches going to and fro, will be no pushover either.”

Bradford University scrum half Jack Mitchell, who made his debut last weekend against Medicals, keeps his place.

Winless Baildon give home debuts to Leeds University students Patrick Sowter (scrum half) and Jamie Vening (fly half) in their home derby against Yarnbury.
