Albion Sports will play their home games at Farsley’s Throstle Nest ground next season.

The Northern Counties League Division One champions must move out of their home city after being given the news that Horsfall Stadium would not be available to them for a third year.

After making hasty arrangements they have secured a deal to share Farsley’s ground so they can take up their place in the Premier Division for the 2013/14 season.

Albion had hoped to stay on at Bradford Council-owned Horsfall but negotiations with tenants Bradford Park Avenue stalled.

Sports chairman Jaj Singh admitted that having to play outside the city is a bitter pill but he hopes being just a few miles over the border into Leeds territory will not damage the club.

He said: “We are all bitterly disappointed because we are and have always been a Bradford club and we have flown the flag for the city.

“It has all been a bit last minute and, if Farsley had not stepped in to help us, it could have been the end for Albion at this level of football.

“Potentially we were faced with effectively going out of business, even though we had just been promoted.

“The NCE League has been very good with us and, once they have the agreement signed by us and Farsley, then everything will progress and our immediate future will be safe.”

Singh and Farsley FC’s president John Palmer completed the paperwork late on Tuesday evening and the document was then passed to an NCEL representative.

Albion have also asked Bradford Council to help them find an alternative venue but Singh explained the club needed to act swiftly.

He said: “We are still waiting to hear from Phil Barker (Bradford Council’s assistant director of sport and leisure) but council business takes time and that was something we didn’t have.

“We had to push plan B into place and we are so grateful to Mr Palmer and Farsley.

“They have been fantastic for us.

“Who knows what the future holds? It could be that we are away for just one season and we find a long-term solution very soon.”
