Guiseley are already confirmed as one of the play-off contenders in Blue Square Bet North, so they are vying for position when they head to fellow promotion contenders and near-neighbours FC Halifax Town on Saturday.

The Shaymen are staggering in the middle of a punishing schedule and suffered another blow as they were held to a draw at rivals Harrogate Town tonight.

Halifax had to come from a goal down as Steve Bolder had given the home side a 1-0 half-time lead but they made sure of at least a point after James Bolton netted an equaliser just after the hour.

Should Guiseley draw at The Shay, they will be certain of claiming runners-up spot for a second successive season.

The Lions need just one point from their remaining three games to bag second spot, which will give them the best possible advantage in the play-offs.

After beating newly-crowned champions Chester FC last Saturday, Steve Kittrick’s men had a free midweek and will therefore be relatively fresh.

They are then back to normal, however, as they travel to Halifax this weekend, are at Harrogate on Tuesday and then finish the regular season with a home game against basement outfit Hinckley United a week on Saturday.

Kittrick has been delighted with the application of his squad as they chased the title winners all the way, and he also wished Chester well in the Conference Premier next season, before adding: “I hope we’re playing in the same division next year, and I told them (Chester and their manager Neil Young) that.”

Even if Guiseley fail to get the single point they need to finish second and all their rivals take maximum points, they will still have home advantage in the play-offs.

The first leg of the semi-finals will be the last midweek of the month with the second and deciding leg at Nethermoor on Saturday May 4.

The final, which should include at least one Yorkshire club, will be on Sunday, May 12.
